About cavities

Tooth decay happens when a cavity forms itself and spreads deep into the tooth. If left untreated, the hole grows larger and the damaged area will eventually reach the dentin (the layer under the enamel). The first signs can appear once the cavity has reached the dentin.

However,cavities don't always cause pain, or can appear rather late if it does. This is why it is strongly advised not to wait until it hurts before seeing a dentist for a check-up.
